| Samba under development focus of Govt: Slathia | | | Early Times Report SAMBA, SEPT 11: Minister for Industries and Commerce, Mr Surjit Singh Slathia, terming development of the state as the prime agenda of the present government, has asked the officers to work for the upliftment of slum dwellers and weaker sections of society by implementing the schemes on paper at ground level. The Minister was addressing a large public meeting at Vijaypur here today. He said that every effort is being made to ensure equitable development of all regions of the state. He said that in the recently conducted district development board meeting, the Chief Minister has categorically emphasized on accelerating the pace of development and judicious and time bound utilization of funds allotted to different projects. Recalling the bold initiatives of the government, Mr Slathia said that Rs.50 lakh has been sanctioned for development of stadium at Samba. He said that realizing the tourism potential of the district, Rs.25 lakh has been approved for the development of Samba fort, which is the pride of the district. Rs. one crore will be spent on development of tourism facilities along Mansar Lake and adjoining areas, while as another Rs.25 lakh has been sanctioned for Utterbehni-Purmandal regions based on the number of tourists and pilgrims reaching to see the heritage sites located there, he added. Slathia said that in wake of the growing popularity of Baba Chamilial, where even the devotees from across the border come every year to pay their obeisance, the government has formulated a plan worth Rs.5 crore and sent it for approval. The Minister reiterated the government’s resolve to improve infrastructure in the sectors like road connectivity, health, education and rural development. He said that various schemes are being implemented both in state and central sectors for the benefit of masses, adding that the responsibility of taking the benefits to grassroots level lies on the officers, who should improved their delivery system. The Minister announced that the government will launch a comprehensive scheme for the unemployed youth on 5th December, 2009, the birth anniversary of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. He said that at present, the thrust is more on enhancement of skills among the youth so that they develop an edge in competing for jobs in private sector. Earlier, the Minister distributed 70 sewing machines to widows, SC/ST and needy persons, 7 tricycles and cheques worth Rs.34,800 to 58 students belonging to landless households under Shiksha Sahyog Aam Admi Beema Yojana. He also distributed Rs.9.80 lakh to 56 beneficiaries for construction of houses under Indira Awas Yojana. Under Annapurna Antodaya Yojana, he distributed 300 bags of 10 kg rice to destitute and needy families. He announced an ultrasound machine for the Sub Division Hospital, Vijaypur. Deputy Commissioner, Samba, Mr Saurbh Bhagat, Provincial President (NC) Mr Rattan Lal Gupta, Corporators and senior officers of social welfare and rural development department were also present on the occasion.
