| SRTC employees show begging bowls, Govt still not embarrassed | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 11: More than four thousand employees of State Road transport corporation are not attending to their duties for last 17 days in the absence of release of their salaries for last five months but the state government seems little inclined towards resolving the issue and saving the ailing corporation from dying its natural death. In the last over two weeks the ailing corporation has suffered huge losses to the tune of several lakhs of rupees .The entire fleet of over 800 vehicles are grounded across different yards/workshops and it may take a while and some extra repair cost to make them operational. Sincere efforts made by the employees’ representatives have not borne any fruit till date. On Friday, frustrated with the response of the state government the SRTC employees in Jammu came out on the streets with a begging bowl and shouted slogans against the state government. "Our children are out of schools and our family members are sitting on dharna on the road along with us but the state government cannot see with its eyes numerous hardships faced by all of us in the absence of release of salaries",leaders of the employees Ashok Mehta said with a begging bowl in his hand. Mehta alleged that they are residents of the state but the state government was not treating them one and is discriminating against them by holding their salaries and other dues. "Our contractual and consolidated employees have not been regularised and we have not deposited a single instalment in our GP and CP fund for over one decade yet the state government is not ready to talk to us and resolve all our pending issues", Mehta rued
