| Industrialists rue ban on polybags | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, SEP 12: Association of Small Scale Industries (ASSI) alleged that ban on polythene carry bags exclusive is discriminatory and ill advised, as there are several other similar industrial units (non biodegradable) which are still running with out any hesitation. Addressing media reports in Jammu on Saturday President ASSI Tejwant Singh Reen said that government has taken the decision in a single go without taking the representatives of the ASSI in confidence. He said that about 60 units have lost there bread and butter and about sixty crores of rupees are in question. He asked whether government was not entitled to discuss the issue with industrialists or to formulate a concrete alternative for polythene manufacturers prior to ban it. He said not less than 50000 (directly or indirectly) people have become part of difficulties and miseries. Reen demanded that government should constitute a committee to discuss issues pertaining to Small Scale Industrialist for amicable and lasting solutions. Replying to query, Reen said that government has always adopted ignorant and discriminatory attitude towards the industrial sector. He said even Minister of Industries and Commerce had done nothing except lip services in favour of industrialists despite being son of the soil. Giving details Reen informed that prior a month a meeting of industrialists and Chief Minister was held in which it was promised that a committee will be constituted to lokk after the issues pertaining to the unit holders viz-a-viz. Alleging negligence, Reen said that nothing has been done so far. “Successive governments and even Governor’s rule had not provided any concession or relief to industrialists” Reen said and added that government should think over the deteriorating conditions of plastic carry bag manufacturers and must come out with an meaningful alternative.
