| LT GEN SPS KUMAR takes over as SIGNAL OFFICER-IN-CHIEF | | | Udhampur, Sep 30, 2006 Lieutenant General Sivasankara Pillai Sree Kumar takes over as the Signal Officer-in Chief on 01 October 2006. On the same day, he will assume the appointment of Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Signals. A 1968 batch officer, he is an alumnus of National Defence Academy and Defence Staff College, Wellington. He has attended all the prestigious courses in India and abroad to include Senior Command, Higher Command, National Defence College and Electronic Warfare Course in Hungary. He has also earned with distinction the Masters degree in Business Administration on Operations Research from Pune University in addition to being M Phil, M Sc and B Tech. Lt Gen Sree Kumar has vast operational experience in 1971 Bangladesh, Operation Pawan in Sri Lanka, Counter Insurgency Operations in Eastern theatre and Operation Rakshak in Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir. He has the rare distinction of holding the coveted appointment of Brigade Major twice, first tenure in Partapur Sector and the second tenure in Manipur. He has been a Director in Military Operations Directorate at Army Headquarters, Deputy Military Secretary at Army Headquarters, Commander Andhra Sub Area and Major General in Charge Administration at Headquarters Northern Command. Within the Corps of Signals, he has held the appointments of Chief Signal Officer Corps, Chief Signal Officer Northern Command and Additional Director General Tele communications before taking over the reigns of the prestigious Military College of Tele communications Engineering (MCTE) in July 2006. Lt Gen SP Sree Kumar was also Chief Signal Officer in United Nations Mission in Somalia. He has traveled widely across various countries to include USA, UK, France, South Africa, Egypt, Nigeria, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Malaysia. For his professional excellence and services of exceptional order he was awarded Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card in January 1995 and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in January 2005.
