Early Times Report
Srinagar, Sept 12-Urging the government to do away with the viva-voce in the process of selections by recruitment agencies, State Secretary CPI(M) and MLA, Kulgam, M. Y Tarigami has said that interviewing is exploited for mal-practices and irregularities while making selections. Initially the weightage given to the viva-voce be reduced to the extent that it does not have much scope for doing injustice with the suitable and genuine aspirants for the posts being filled by the SSRB and Public Service Commission, Tarigami said in a statement issued here today.
Referring to the recent selection list of Naib Tehsildars issued by the SSRB, Tarigami said that alleged irregularities in the selection of Naib Tehsildars be investigated as it has put a question mark on the working and credibility of SSRB. He said that till the investigations are completed, the selection list be kept in abeyance to remove apprehensions among the aggrieved candidates and restore the faith of the aspirants as well as the common people in the Board. He wondered that some media reports reveal involvement of ministers in the irregularities in Naib Tehsildars selection and said that there was need to go deep into the matter to remove the misgivings, if any, in this regard or to initiate action against the involved.
He also suggested introduction of observers from judiciary in the viva-voce process and recording of the same so that the accountability and transparency is maintained during the selections. There have been allegations against the SSRB and PSC for irregularities in selections day in and day out which have become debatable among the people especially the aspirants, Tarigami, said, adding that all aspects connected with the selections by these agencies be made public. He said that the agencies be made accountable and responsible under the purview of Right to Information Act and appealed the aspiring youth to avail the benefit of the Act to their satisfactory level.
