| Workshop on social justice at JU | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 12- Dr. Ambedkar Studies Centre, University of Jammu in collaboration with Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policies organized a National Workshop on ‘Social Justice and the Marginal’s’ at University of Jammu here today. About a dozen distinguished delegates across the country, including senior Professors and academicians from renowned universities like JNU, Delhi University, IGNOU, Punjab University, Himachal Pradesh University etc participated in the event. Prof. T. K. Oommen, Prof. Emeritus from JNU, New Delhi who delivered the inaugural address talked about the etymology of marginalization and the marginal’s and argued about locating them in broader perspective depending upon their social location and the distance between them and the centre. He emphasized that the issue of the marginal’s should be contextual. Prof. Varun Sahni, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University in his presidential address spoke about the importance of workshop both in terms of academic and research. While talking about the marginal community he talked about the invisible marginal groups like nomadic groups, sexual minorities etc. His pointed out that in the society what defines the nature of marginality is the nature of the distribution of power in the given set. Prof. Kulwant Kaur, Director, CSS&IP presented the welcome address while Prof. R.L.Bhat, HoD Sociology talked about the achievements of the department. Dr. Ashish Saxena, Director, Dr. Ambedkar Centre introduced the gathering about the workshop and also spoke about the functioning of the centre.
