| Martyrs’ Day observed in Kishtwar, floral tributes paid to martyrs | | | Sarita Jamwal Udhampur, Sept- 13- Rich tributes were paid to five martyrs who sacrificed their precious lives during struggle of District status for Kishtwar here today . Giving a befitting reply to communal forces, Hindus and Muslims turned out in large number to observe annual Martyr Day and took a pledge to work jointly for strengthening communal harmony and national integration. A huge number of people from both the communities, irrespective of their political affiliation, joined together to pay tributes to those who had laid down their lives 35 years ago on same day while participating in an agitation for granting district status to Kishtwar and opening of a degree college in the town. Leaders from National conference, BJP , Congress , Panthers party ,PDP paid floral tribute to martyrs and highlighted their achievements on the occasion terming their scarifies remarkable and historical for local populace which cannot be forgotten. A large number of students participated in the function. The place where five students had become victims to police firing had been christened as ‘Sheedhi Mazar’. Since 1974, residents of Kishtwar have been paying tributes to the martyrs on this day every year here.
