| Rajouri custodial death | | PDP aks Govt to end HR Violation | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Sep 14 : Expressing concern over the alleged deteriorating human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the main Opposition Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) said the dignity and honour of the people was once again being compromised with impunity. In a statement here today, a PDP spokesperson alleged that the emergent situation reminded the people of the dark days before 2002 elections when life, property and honour of the common man was taken far granted. The custodial death in Rajouri, forcible commandeering of public transport in Handwara or indiscriminate beating of people in Tral, were incidents indicating that the security forces had again been given a license to terrorize people, he alleged. Stressing that the National Conference(NC) led coalition cannot get away with atrocities, he said the government had been unable to punish the guilty involved in gross crime and atrocities committed in Shopian, Bomai, Khaigam Kupwara or Gupkar road. Reminding that the ground situation in the state had changed, he said the people's response through public demonstration should serve as an eye opener. The spokesman claimed that any voice of protest pointing towards the government's failure was dubbed as sedition and separatism by government agencies, which used brute force on unarmed protestors. Expressing full solidarity with the people of Shopian ''who have waged a dignified and sustained campaign for justice'' in the double rape and murder case of two young women, the spokesman said the inability of police to make a break-through in the more recent killing of Mohammadd Hussain Zargar, an activist of Majli-E-Mushawarat (MeM), which is heading the agiation against Shopian incident, had added a more curious dimension to the cover-up bid in Shopian.
''While it was inconsequential whether the CBI took up the investigation at this stage or not, it was interesting that the premier organization had virtually acknowledged the futility of any serious investigation to uncover the truth under the present dispensation in the state,'' he added.
