Meanwhile, the Congress party’s austerity measures message has reached Jammu with AICC Secretary Capt Praveen Dawar briefing the office bearers about Congress Working Committee’s August 19 resolution. In a meeting held at PCC headquarters, Capt. Davar gave the details of the CWC meeting and stressed upon the implementation of the CWC-resolutions as per which all MPs, MLAs, MLCs, Corporators and Chairmen of various corporation will offer voluntary cut of 20% from their salaries, party spokesperson said. This step is part of austerity measures emphasized upon by Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi in view of the drought situation, the visitor said. Capt. Davar also said that Smt. Sonia Gandhi is keen that all Congressmen, especially, Senior leaders, must set an example of austerity in their conduct and daily lives to identify with the poor people suffering from the drought situation in the country. The AICC Secretary advised the PCC to act up a committee for monitoring the implementation of NREGA in each district. He also advised the Congress workers to ensure there was no hoarding or black marketing in the city by unscrupulous traders. This will be a major step towards bringing down price. After having a brief meeting senior Congress leader Capt. Davar left for Srinagar where he will be addressing another meeting of PCC office bearers and legislators of the Valley. The meeting in Srinagar will be presided over by the Prof. Saifuddin Soz-MP, President J&K PCC, party spokesperson said.
