| Ex-Pak Generals unhappy over revelation of official secrets by Mush | | |
Islamabad, Sep 30 Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf’s memoirs have once again come under fire after some former generals opined that the author must be held accountable if his narration on ''sensitive issues'' is proved wrong. According to a report in the ''Daily Times'' quoted some former generals expressing consternation on Gen Musharraf’s revelations on Kargil and Pakistan’s nuclear programme. ''They believe that Gen Musharraf wrote his own chargesheet in the book,'' the report added ''He (Musharraf) has provided ample legal and moral evidence against himself. A national commission should be formed to interrogate him,'' former ISI chief and Lt Gen (Retd) Hameed Gul said. Another former top ranking official, Lt Gen (Retd) Asad Durrani, said the book had revealed that Pakistan’s decision to support the US-led war on the Taliban was taken under threat and pressure from the American administration. ''A large segment of society thought that Pakistan had taken side with the US after 9/11, but Gen Musharraf’s revelation has been a big disappointment to them,'' he said. However, Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Ali Chishti said, ''Every Pakistani has the right of expression. If he is not lying or revealing national secrets then there is nothing wrong with the book,. Leading analyst on South Asia, Kamal Matinuddin was of the opinion that the President should not have disclosed sensitive details about the country's nuclear scientist A Q Khan, Pakistan's Afghanistan policy and the Kargil conflict. ''I would not have written these facts if I was writing a book. There are many things which one knows but they are not supposed to be disclosed,'' he said. Former generals Aslam Beg and K M Arif said they were not in a position to comment on the book because they had not read it yet |
