| 42nd Engineers’ Day celebrated | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 15- The local centre of Institution of Engineers (India), celebrated 42nd Engineers’ Day here today. The day is celebrated all over the country to commemorate birth anniversary of the greatest engineer Sir M. Visvesvaraya, Bharat Ratna. On this occasion Devender Singh Rana, Political Advisor to Chief Minister was the Chief Guest. Rich tributes were paid to Sir M. Visvesvaraya by P. B. Khajuria, FIE on his 148th birth anniversary in which his sterling qualities like integrity, austerity, discipline and firm conviction were highlighted. Earlier, while welcoming the dignitaries and a galaxy of engineers, B. B. Gupta, FIE Chairman of the Centre highlighted various problems of the engineers and emphasized that procedure of adhoc promotions should be done away with and engineers should be promoted against clear vacancies and be confirmed by virtue of allowing them the grades of the higher post so held by them. He alleged that the Government has discriminated with the engineers while implementing the 6th Pay Commission. He requested the Government to remove this discrimination with the engineers and advocated for running grades to all the engineers. Devender Singh Rana presented R. L. Sharma Gold Medal to Santokh Singh, FIE and Rudra Bhagwati Silver Medal to B. L. Rawal, MIE for presenting the best and second best technical paper respectively during the year 2008-09. Rana also honoured Santokh Singh, Rabinder Shekher, S. C.Thukral, B. L.Rawal, S. K. Pandita, and P. K. Nanda besides members of the Editorial Board of the quarterly newsletter of the Jammu Centre by presenting them mementoes.
