| Work in LIC offices paralyzed in J&K, employees demand wage revision | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 16- Work remained paralyzed in all offices of LIC of India in whole of Jammu and Kashmir as employees went on day long strike on the call of All India Insurance Employees' Association. LIC Employees )Class III and IV) throughout the country observed one day strike to demand meaningful wage discussions leading to a satisfactory settlement of the wage revision due since August 1, 2007. In Jammu striking employees held protest dharna at LIC Office Railway head complex under the leadership of Pawan Gupta, divisional secretary Northern Zone Insurance Employees Association while in Srinagar the employees held dharna under the leadership of A M Tantray, divisional president of the Association. At Jammu, Daleep Koul, Gen Secretary GIEU J&K was special invitee on the occasion who assured full support to LIC Employees. Speaking on the occasion, Pawan Gupta said that it is more than two years since the wage revision in public sector insurance industry fell due. Not worthwhile efforts are made to seriously engage the unions in negotiations to settle the genuine demands of the employees and officers, he added. The employees said that in 2008-09 total premium income of LIC stood at Rs 1,57,186 crores with a growth of 5% over last year, settled over 149 lakh claims to the tune of Rs.37,893 crores and invested Rs.529525 crores in government and social sector investments as on March 31 this year. But it is very disappointing that LIC management failed so far to assert its right to settle wage revision to the employees on the basis of its performance and financial strength. The employees said the wage revision in the insurance sector is already delayed and demand of the unions for a good wage revision is totally justified.
