2 college girls gang raped near Birpur Of seven accused, 2 held, hunt on for others

Jammu, Sept 16: In a shameful and most shocking incident two students of a local college have reportedly been gang raped by at least seven persons in a village off Jammu-Pathankote National Highway near Birpur.
Police sources said that two Punjab based girl students of a private College for Elementary Teachers Training situated on the outskirts of Jammu City were on their way from home to resume College that the appalling incident happened with them. Two persons involved in gang rape have been arrested while identification of the rest of the five youths has been established by Baribrahmana Police.
The victims, Police said, had hired a vehicle from Punjab for Jammu and by the time they reached around Baribrahmna on the National Highway it was already around middle of last night. The driver of the vehicle and his associate, sources said, forced the vehicle off-way towards in isolated place and repeatedly raped the girls by after overpowering them.
The sorry fate for the girls did not end here. While the driver and his associated were with the girls in an isolated patch of bushes that five local car borne youth noticed some suspicious activity and dropped in at the site of incident.
Instead of rescuing the hapless girls from the beastly driver and his associate, the local youth too joined the gang of rapists and joined in to torment their chastity. They reportedly threatened the driver and his associated to take them to Police if they were not allowed to join in the crime. The local youths escaped from the spot after committing the heinous crime.
While the local youths were fleeing the spot and the driver and his associate were readying up to leave, one of the girls escaped from the scene and hid herself in bushes. The girls feared for their life after the rape had been committed upon them. However, the driver and his associate bundled one of the girls in their vehicle and drove her to near railway station so that she can take a train back to home.
The girl, however, exhibited the courage and reached to her College in the morning where narrated the whole incident. In the meantime, the other girl who had gone into hiding last night after being raped also reached the College.
After their learning their shocking story, the College authorities lodged a complaint with the concerned Police station and a hunt was launched to track down the criminals. The girls had identified the driver and his associate as Kulwant Singh son of Balkar Singh and Surjeet Singh son of Sohan Singh and their vehicle bore the registration number PB08 AL 1277.
Senior Superintendent of Police Samba Raghuveer Singh constituted a team under the supervision of SDPO Munish Kumar and led by Station House Officer Mohammad Aslam to track down the group of local youths. The Police indeed managed to arrest Kulwant Singh, the driver of the vehicle and also seized his vehicle. Another accused identified as Ajay alias Aju has also been arrested and on his disclosures identity of all accused has been established. “We are on our toes to take all of them in”, said a Police source.
