4 youths run away with service weapon of constable on duty, Police registers a case of theft

Jammu, Sept 16: While Jammu Police has been constantly sweating out chasing the thieves on prowl snatching chains, purses and cellphones on the streets in broad day light, today it was its own turn. Four vehicle borne youth snatched service weapon from a cop on duty after beating him up and then made their escape good.
The Police, having solved dozens of robbery, theft, vehicle lifting and snatching cases in recent weeks, were yet to make any headway in finding out who the youth were, leave aside arresting them. It could not be immediately made out whether the youths had a militant background, criminal intent or were just on an adventure move.
The cop identified as GirdariLal son of Mangu Ram resident of Dyalachak lodged report with the Pirmitha Police station alleging that four unidentified persons including a woman appeared at Circular road with a TATA Sumo and snatched his weapon after thrashing him. They escaped from the spot before any hue or cry could be made, he said.
The IRP cop of third battalion informed that he was on duty when two youth put off the vehicle and snatched his service weapon, Carbine gun, and after thrashing him escaped from the spot. He however, said that there were two other persons including a woman were present in the vehicle. The weapon was loaded of 15 rounds. He expressed his ignorance of the vehicle number as he was tumble down. Police is clueless. While as senior police officers of IRP along with district police is questioning him to elicit more information.
The Police have registered a case of theft in this connection.
