| Slathia reviews Vijaypur flyover project | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 17 -Minister for Industries and Commerce Mr Surjit Singh Slathia today convened a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner Samba Mr Saurab Bhagat, senior officers of National Highway Authority of India and other line departments to take a review of the ongoing work on the national highway. He also reviewed the project plan for construction of a flyover at Vijaypur and also paid a visit to the proposed site .He said that the concerns expressed by people was genuine as a flyover at the proposed site would cause serious problem to the people. Mr Slathia said that such projects as fly over should be designed to promote the interest of the public and all efforts should be made to check the viability and long term consequences .He asked the NHAI authorities to reconsider their plan and find an alternative for carrying out the project. Stressing on the need to expedite the ongoing works on the prestigious National Highway project Mr Slathia said that time bound execution and quality management are vital for providing better connectivity to the people in the state . Taking a serious note of the recurring accidents on National Highway Mr Slathia said that unattended gaps and pit holes are posing great threats to the motorists and commuters, he directed the concerned authorities to prioritize the work on filling these pits and making all safety provisions adhering to the norms so as to keep a check on the accidents. The minister also directed the revenue authorities to speed up the land acquisition and compensation cases .He directed the DDC to monitor these cases for their early disposal adding that these should not cause any delays in the execution of the project. Mr Slathia directed the concerned officers to ensure timely replacement of faulty transformers so that people do not face any inconvenience .The minister also asked the concerned agency to expedite the construction work of Degree College Samba.
