| Sham warns ‘ Late latiefs’ | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 17 -Taking serious view of the luke warm attitude of the doctors and para-medical staff in performing their duties in rural areas, Minister for Health, Horticulture, Mr Sham Lal Sharma has issued stern warning to the medical fraternity to mend their ways and deliver on ground. He has asked them to be more accountable, transparent and serve the patients with extra zeal. The Minister said that medical is a noble profession and people associated with this profession should devote themselves and maintain the credibility as per medical ethics. He asked them to shun the commercial approach and serve the needy with best of their ability. The Minister was addressing a meeting of all CMOs/Medical Superintendents of Jammu division here today. Saying that work culture is essential for ensuring better results, Mr Sharma stressed upon the heads of the institution to firmly deal with the defaulters and maintain punctuality in the health institution. He asked them to conduct regular touring of rural areas to ensure stay of the doctors in their headquarters during night hours to meet the emergencies. He said for the absent of the staff he will held responsible to the head of the institution and they will be liable for stern action under rules, he added. The Minister said that government is trying to provide better facilities and working environment for the medicos in phased manner and various steps in this direction have been taken. He said that government has already announced special incentive for the doctors who will serve in far flung areas. Doctors engaged under NRHM will also get the enhanced honorarium from August 2009. In view of these, the government expects better results from them and no laxity whatsoever will be tolerated, the Minister clarified. Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr Jasbir Singh and all the CMOs, Medical Superintendents of Jammu division were present in the meeting.
