| SAD to hold convention of Sikh community in November | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sep 17: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) of Jammu Kashmir has decided to hold all parties convention of Sikh community on November 15,2009 to evolve a comprehensive strategy for resolution of their legitimate old problems since decades. Addressing the media persons Gurdev Singh, working president deplored the attitude of the successive government of Jammu and Kashmir for failing to take cognizance of the genuine and legitimate demands of the Sikh community in the state as well as not attending to the problems faced by the community. He said though Sikhs are in minority but constitutes about 6% of the population of the state and is neglected by successive government and are scattered throughout the state can not elect their representative. He said Sikhs are lagging behind other communities socially, economically and politically as well. He demanded that Sikh community be declared a minority community in the state and constitutional provision be made for having representatives of the Sikh community in the political framework of the state. Sikhs have their own distinct culture and identity and hence their share in political hierarchy can not be clubbed with other communities. He further expressed serious concern about the growing unrest among Sikh youth caused by mounting unemployment and reiterated demand for Sikh youth in services, professional institutes as per the population. He wanted government to address the concerns of the community seriously and not to test patience of the Sikh masses.
