EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Sept 17- Harsh Dev Singh leader of Panthers Legislature Party has demanded a thorough probe into the fraudulent drawl of subsidies by the fake Industrial Units during the erstwhile coalition regime, robbing the state exchequer of crores of rupees.
Singh alleged that during the recent Assembly Session certain startling disclosures had been made in the replies provided to him in response to his cut motions pertaining to the functioning of Industries Department in the state during the past 3-4 years. He said that in the replies provided to him, the government had admitted that subsidies had been availed by more than 15500 fake industrial units in the state, which were untraceable. He said out of the total untraceable and fake units 12855 units had availed the subsidy in Kashmir and 2992 units in Jammu region.
Expressing grave concern over the established fraud and loot of the public exchequer, Singh expressed grave concern over the issue and questioned the criminal silence of the government. He said that the government was trying to hush up the matter and conceal the whole issue due to the alleged involvement of high-ups without whose collusion; a fraud of such magnitude could not have been committed. He called upon the Minister concerned to have the matter enquired and appropriate proceedings initiated under law against the guilty.
He also flayed the discriminatory treatment doled out to the industrial units of Jammu under the Rehabilitation Scheme of the government during the last three years. He said that the government had provided incentives and soft loans to potentially revivable 66 industrial units of the state of which 59 belonged to Kashmir and called for rectification of the anomalous position.
Questioning the rationale behind withdrawal of Central Excise duty exemption, he urged upon the state government to vigorously take up the issue with the Central government to restore the status quo ante so that industrial units could grow and thrive in the state.
He also called for vigorously launching the REGP and PMEGS so that the unemployed youth of the state could be gainfully employed and absorbed in various trades.
