Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 18: The state Government has initiated vigorous measures for identifying land where 18 ITIs are to be set up under the centrally sponsored scheme. The Minister for Technical Education, R.S.Chib, today said that land has been identified in several districts for the purpose and after acquiring land "I plan to get the construction work started from December."
He said that each ITI was to be built at a cost of Rs.12.3 crores. He explained that besides required infrastructure about 60 kanals had to be acquired for each ITI. In reply to a question he said that earlier under the Prime Minister's package Rs.22.50 crores had been approved for establishment of five ITIs but till last year not a penny had been spent on the project. .He said that under the package Rs.49 crores had been approved for establishing 10 colleges in the state but till last year no money had been utilized on the project.
Chib said that he will not commit any such mistake and "I shall see to it that the funds earmarked for the establishment of ITIs were fully utilized." He said these 18 ITIs were to be set up in 18 districts excluding Srinagar, Jammu, Leh and Kargil where already ITIs in Public and private sector exist. He said that under the Central Government instructions these ITIs have to be established within eight km radius of the district headquarters.
In reply to another question Chib said that the state Government had approved Rs .two crores for first such ITI and once the land identification process was completed he would submit the project report to the Government with the suggestion that land be acquired for the ITIs.
He said "personally I believe that the state like Jammu and Kashmir needed more of ITIs than degree colleges because once candidates come out from the ITIs do not face any major problem of securing jobs." ITI trained candidates receive the necessary skill required for setting up industrial units, he said.
