| PM dismisses Tharoor’s cattle remark as joke | | | Agencies New Delhi: Condemning Shashi Tharoor’s ‘cattle class’ remarks, the Congress said on Friday it would take ‘appropriate action at appropriate time’ against the MOS for External Affairs. Manish Tewari, the Congress Spokesperson, told media persons here that his party condemned the remarks of Tharoor on travelling economy class. He also seemed to agree with Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot’s demand for Tharoor’s resignation when he said such reaction was ‘natural’. Reacting to the controversy over his "cattle class" remarks, Tharoor had on Thursday night said he was "sorry" for hurting sentiments and that his words had been misunderstood. Tharoor ran into trouble for a message he posted on the social networking site Twitter in which he said sarcastically in response to a query that he would travel "cattle class out of solidarity with all our holy cows!" But the PM was dismissive about the affair. "It was a joke," Manmohan Singh told reporters. Congress Spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan had termed the phrase as "unacceptable" and said Tharoor was perhaps not conscious of local sensitivities since he was new to Indian politics.
