Festivity grips Jammu as Navratras begin

Jammu, Sep 19: As the nine-day-long navratra festival commenced today with fanfare, thousands of devotees thronged temples, especially the famous Bahu Fort temple known as Bawe Wali Mata in this winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Hymn-blaring kiosks decked up to lure customers, serpentine queues of devotees and an ambience of festivity marked the beginning of the navratras here today.
Colourful as usual, the first navratra saw people thronging to the temple to pay obeisance to Bawe wali Mata as chants of “Sanche Darbar Ki Jai” rent the air. The young, the old, people of all age groups and from all walks of life began pouring in at the shrine since early morning even as stalls along the roadside readied for the rush.

Before dawn devotees were seen standing in the queues waiting for their turn to have darshan of Babey Wali Mata. Heavy rush of devotees continued till late this evening as devotees coming from far-flung areas of Jammu region.
As the people of Jammu have faith in the goddess Mahakali, thousands from different parts of the city and its peripheries, visited to offer prayers and have blessings during navaratras.
''This is the fifth consecutive year; I never miss visiting the Kali temple during navratras. I everyday reach here early morning to offer prayers,'' Reeta Sharma a city resident.
Another devotee, Sahil Kapoor says, I have great faith in Ma Durga and according to him whoever with whole heatedly comes here gets his wishes fulfilled.
Authorities have made elaborate security arrangements. Keeping in view the heavy rush of devotees, additional deployment of police was made in the premises of the temple to control the people. Outside the premises some people have arranged langer for the devotees in which Parshad was served to all the pilgrims. Large number of devotees also visited Mahamaya temple on this occasion.
Paramilitary forces along with police have been deployed on the temple premises while the Bahu Fort, which witnesses a huge rush of devotees, is covered with tight blanket of security cover,'' a senior police official said.
Meanwhile the Navratra festival, 14th in the series, is being organized by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) and Tourism Department in collaboration with the local organizations.
