| Rabi seeds distribution begins in Jammu division | | | Early Times report JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 20 - The seed distribution plan of Agriculture Department, Jammu for Rabi 2009-10 season is well in place and the dispatches of high yielding variety quality seeds have also started to the respective destinations for timely sowing of the seed and catering to the needs of the farming community. This was informed by Director Agriculture here today.
It was also informed that the Toria varieties RSPT-1, PT-303 and T-9, Gobhi-sarson variety GSL-1 and varieties of potato, Kufri Badshah and Kufri Sindhuri have been provided in the first phase because of their early time of sowing. About 32.86 qtls of Toria and 15.45 qtls of Gobhi-sarson have been dispatched to Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi and Rajouri districts to cover an area of about 960 hectares. 70 qtl of Potato seed has been dispatched to Billawar and Basohli areas till date. Another 183 qtl fresh and graded potato seed will be dispatched by to Udhampur, Ramnagar, Assar, Rajouri and Reasi by 23rd September.
As per the direction of Agriculture Minister, Jenab Ghulam Hassan Mir the field officers of Agriculture Department have been directed to develop every village as a model area for a specific agricultural activity or commodity suitable to it. They have also been directed to provide information to the farmers about improved production technology so that sustainable and higher yields are obtained for home consumption as well as marketing.
Director Agriculture, Mrs Vinod Bala Sharma has also advised the farmers to lift the available seeds immediately from respective departmental stores and sow it well in time to obtain a high yield. She also informed that improved vegetable seed has also been dispatched to all the districts.
