| Geelani, over 25 other separatist leaders to remain caged on Eid | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Sept 20: The moon though has been sited for Eid on Monday but for many Kashmiri separatist leaders their ‘festive freedom’ remains elusive. The hardliner separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani remained under house arrest while more than 25 other senior separatist leaders, including chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah and Dukhtaran-e-Milat chief Asiya Andrabi, remained in different jails even after their detention was quashed by the courts repeatedly. They were arrested in other cases under Public Safety Act (PSA). Mr Geelani remained confined in his Hyderpora house as a large number of security force personnel, deployed outside, are not allowing him to leave, a hurriyat spokesman Aiyaz Akbar said this afternoon. Mr Aiyaz said nobody was being allowed to meet him as the doors have been closed by the security forces. Even those inside were not being allowed to come out, he said. He said a senior police officer informed Mr Geelani, who was released after 95 days of detention, that he cannot leave his residence till further orders. Mr Aiyaz said Mr Geelani was not allowed to offer prayers on the last Friday of holy month of Ramzan. Mr Geelani is scheduled to offer Eid prayers at his native place Sopore if allowed by the authorities, he added. Mr Geelani was arrested to prevent him from leading protests at Shopian against the double rape and murder of Neelofar and Asiya in May. However, his detention, under different cases registered since late 80s, was released at least three times by the courts. But each time he was re-arrested and booked under another cases. The Jammu and Kashmir High Court, on September 8, quashed the detention of Mr Geelani and ordered his immediate release if he was not sought in other cases. This time the government released him without re-arresting him. More than 20 other separatist leaders, including Shabir Ahmad Shah, Aasiya Andrabi and Ghulam Nabi Sumbji remained under detention in different jails in the state. The court had also quashed the detention of several other separatist leaders, including Shabir Ahmad Shah and Asiya, but they were re-arrested.
