Early Times Report
Akhnoor, Sept 21- Raj Tilaj Celebration Committee Akhnoor is has expressed its happiness for celebrating Navratra festival at Jia Pota; the historic place where Raj Tilak Ceremony of Raja Gulab Singh was performed by Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
K P Singh, Chairman of Raj Tilak Celebration Committee complimented Department of Tourism and District Administration for holding this revered religious function at such a pious place. He and other members of the Raj Tilak Committee lauded the efforts of the Tourism Department for converting Jia Pota as an attractive tourist spot and for creation of amenities along the river bank. The Committee appealed the Department to renovate the Platform and the area around it where the Raj Tilak ceremony was performed along with a granite stone with portrait of Maharaja Gulab Singhji with suitable write up for the benefit of tourists who do not know about the history.
Committee has, however, noted with great concern that not a word was spoken or mentioned by any speaker including the Minister and the Deputy Director Archaeology about Raj Tilak of the Founder Ruler of J&K. Was it deliberate or ignorance has to be clarified by the speakers to the public. Can this historical fact be ignored and can the tourists be denied/deprived this information? By showing disrespect to such historical facts are we not willfully killing the past history to which our present and future is inseparably linked, the committee members alleged. Chairman has appealed the Archaeology and Tourism departments to give due importance to the process of formation of our state by one of the greatest General and visionary ruler.
