| SRTC employees continue strike, hold demonstrations in Srinagar | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Sep 21 : Thousand of buses of the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) remained off the roads today following an indefinite strike by the employees for the past one month. Demanding four months' wages and other benefits, the STRC employees again took to the streets in the city, alleging that the government has failed to honour its promises made to the employees in the past.
Similar demonstrators were also held at district headquarters by the employees, who alleged that they are facing starvation because of non-payment of salaries.
They alleged that their children were not being allowed to enter schools after they failed to pay their school fees and other dues.
''How can we pay fees of our children when we have nothing to eat,'' they said.
The employees on Shabe-e-Qadr night held long demonstrations near Lal Chowk in support of their demands.
Strike by the employees since August 26 badly affected the devotees of Hazratbal shrine who had to cover the distance on foot in the absence of adequate transport facilities on the occasion of Eid-ul-Zuha. It has also affected the students of different schools using the SRTC buses.
