General council meeting of LAHDC held
Rs. 81.99 cr being spent on execution of development works in Leh district

Leh, September 30 – An amount of Rs.81.99 crore is being spent on the execution of various developmental worksin the Leh district during the current year. Out of it Rs.64.99 crore are State Sector, Rs. 10 crore as NABARD loan, and Rs. 7 crore Central fund, granted for construction of the council infrastructure.
This was disclosed in the General Council Meeting of the LAHDC, Leh held here today. The Chairman and Chief executive Councilor Shri Tsering Dorje presided over the General Council Meeting. Others present were Executive councilor Agriculture Mr. Tsering Narboo Lampa, Executive Councilor Health Mr. Dorje Motup, Executive Councilor Education Mr. Tsewang Rigzin and MLA Nobra Mr. Pintoo Narboo. All the 6 Congress Councilors were present.
The Deputy Commissioner, Leh Mr. M. K. Dwivedi and all departmental heads were present.
Initiating the meeting the Chief Executive Councilor said that Hill Council Leh under his Chairmanship is committed to ensure speedy balanced development all over the district and the pace of development would be speeded up to achieve the target as was formulated for the year 2006-2007.
Elaborating the expenditure registered last year in reference to a question of the opposition leader Mr. Rigzin Spalbar, the Chief Executive Councilor said that an amount of Rs.9 crores was surrendered last year due to financial crunch in the treasury. Mr. Dorje said that sanctions for granting administrative approval for executing development works has been issued and adding that the targeted expenditure as well as execution of targeted works would be achieved during the current year.
In the first day of the General Council meeting, the activities of departments like Agriculture, Horticulture, Forest, Industries, Tourism, Cooperatives, Food and Supplies, Education, Health were reviewed and the Councilors sought details of the works and the schemes.
The meeting decided to give a boost to the agriculture produce of Leh as the vegetable and fruits of this area have good market available. The meeting decided to go for construction of cold storage and Temperature-Management-Mechanism so that the fruits and vegetables live for longer period. The meeting decided to invite consultants to see for the storage-project.
Councilor Smt. Spalzes Angmo urged for giving due representation to women for establishing Self Help Groups in villages for making good the cause of women.
The meeting also reviewed the pace of work done on the control of locust in Changthang area and stressed for fully control on menace of the locution Changthang.
The meeting also reviewed the Tourism sector to give a new boost to Tourism industry in Leh. It was informed that more than 38,000 tourists visited Ladakh. The number was foreign tourists 25,000 beating all the past records which promoted the economy of the Tourism related people.
Mr. Rigzin Spalbar urged for giving advance publicity of Ladakh Festivals and Sindhu Festival. The Chief Executive Councilor said the due publicity has been made for the festivals as a result large number of tourists visited Ladakh.
