Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 21: Ahead of convening of formal meeting of all members of the Special Investigation Team probing the evidence tampering in Amandeep murder case, the top brass of Jammu Police today met at the Gandhi Nagar Police Station and did preliminary questioning of three officials connected with the case.
The Police team led by Inspector General of Jammu Zone Ashok Gupta and comprising DIG Jammu-Kathua Range Farooq Khan and SSP Jammu Basanth Rath visited the Gandhi Nagar Police Station this afternoon and had an half-an-hour long meeting there which also involved questioning of three officials.
While the SIT members refused to divulge any details of the proceedings, sources said that the officers questioned suspended SHO Sultan Mirza, Investigation Officer Satnam Singh and Munshi Talib Hussain as how they offered facilities, including packed food, to accused Jatinder Singh alias Raja during his Police custody. Owner a particular food joint in Gandhi Nagar, from where food was procured for the accused, was also reportedly called to the Police station for questioning. The police records were also gone through by the officers.
Sources said, SP Ramban Mubashir Letiefi who heads the SIT under supervision of DIG Farooq Khan, was yet to join the team and so was the case with DySP Rauf Lone. Inspector Avtar Singh Gill was, however, present in the meeting. Latiefi and Rauf will be joining the SIT tomorrow.
While a level of security deployment was seen around the houses of former SSP Manohar Singh and other suspended officials, sources said that arrest of some of the officers in the evidence tampering case was imminent any time. Sources added that a decision about arrest will be taken only after SIT begins with first round of their questioning. In the event of their arrest, the SSP and SP could be lodged at the GOs Mess in Gandhi Nagar, said the sources.
