| Alleged irregularities in selection of 645 Anganwari Workers challenged | | HC directs for completion of inquiry within one month | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 22- Disposing off a petition filed by Qadeer Fatima, challenging the selection of Anganwari workers in Rajouri and Poonch districts sin 2006, Justice Virender Singh of J&K High Court Jammu Wing today issued direction to the official respondents to conclude the entire process of enquiry initiated by passing final order including the selection of respondent Shenaz Akhtar within one month from the date a copy of this order is served upon the respondents which shall be the responsibility of the petitioner only. Court further said that before taking final decision respondent Shenaz Akhtar shall be offered an opportunity of being heard if already not provided. Court also made it clear that till the final order is passed status of the private respondent, she is holding as on date, shall not be disturbed. Since there were certain irregularities committed in making selection of Anganwari workers District Rajouri and Poonch in 2006, several complaints were made in this regard. The Anganwari workers already selected being afraid of their disengagement, knocked the door of High Court, filed 122 writ petitions which were clubbed. Ultimately, all the petitions came to be disposed off by the High Court on April 4, 2008, with the direction that the selection of 645 Anganwari workers made in the Districts of Poonch and Rajouri, as a whole, shall not be cancelled. The services of selected candidates in respect of whom discrepancies have been found but the engagement orders stand issued shall not be terminated by the competent authority, without following due course of law and observance of principles of natural justice. The selected candidates in respect of whom discrepancies in their selection have been found but engagement orders have not been issued, competent Authority shall re-examine their cases and pass appropriate orders. The candidates who have joined pursuant to the engagement orders shall be paid honorarium due with effect from the date of joining. Advocate H Rehman, appearing for the petitioner, submitted that the petitioner had already moved a complaint against the selection of Shenaz Akhter before the CDPO Mendhar and matter was being enquired. After the decision on the bunch of writ petitions, the petitioner filed this petition on the ground that despite many irregularities committed in selection of private respondent, still the petitioner was not being considered and thus sought intervention of the Court.
