SRTC employees strike enters 28th day; Government still unmoved
9/22/2009 10:46:51 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 22- It is almost one month now that SRTC employees are holding regular protest demonstrations across the state demanding early release of salaries and other benefits but the state government has simply chose to ignore them in an apparent bid to convey a simple message to the striking employees of the Corporation--perform or perish.
The SRTC employees were nurturing a dream that during Eid the state government might settle for a dialogue and the issue of payment of salaries would be resolved thereafter.
But even after Eid the state government continues to adopt criminal silence over the issue. The same has irked the SRTC employees who have not been paid salaries for the last five months.
On Tuesday, the SRTC employees in Jammu once again came on to the streets and took out a protest march crossing through Tawi Bridge.
The employees were joined by their family members who also shouted slogans against the state government for failing to address the issue.
Ashok Mehta leader of the SRTC employees union expressed shock over the manner in which the state government has simply chosen to ignore the fact that more than 4000 employees of the SRTC have not been paid their salaries and yet the state government does not bother much about it.
Mehta said it is a shame that the SRTC employees and their families are struggling and protesting on the road sides and sitting on dharna yet the state government and its senior bureaucrats are showing no concern towards their plight.
Mehta alleged that SRTC employees were facing difficult times in the absence of regular payment of salaries. We have not been paid GP, CP fund and services of large number of employees were still not regularized .It may be mentioned that more than 800 vehicles of SRTC are lying grounded across different locations and incurring huge losses in view of the ongoing strike.
