| SIT begins probe, visits victim’s family Suspended cops under surveillance, passports impounded | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 22: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to probe evidence tampering in Amandeep murder case today had its first formal meeting to draw a blueprint for investigation taking into account all aspects of the case. In its first step to move on the case, the SIT visited the family of deceased Amandeep Singh at their Shahstri Nagar residence to record their statements and opinions. Accompanied by experts, the SIT, sources said, also did mapping of the spot of incident where Amandeep was allegedly fired at and took into account other material evidences. Sources said that though none of the suspended Police officials including for the former SSP Jammu have been taken into custody for questioning but all of them are under strict surveillance. CRPF deployment has been made around their residences. However, sources pointed out, more than anything else, the CRPF deployment has been made to ward off the protesters as there have been demonstrations at many places after it was learnt that the weapon offence had allegedly been tampered with for a consideration. Meanwhile, sources said that passports of the suspended Police officials were today seized by the authorities in order to block there any possible escape out of country. While SIT members continue to be tight lipped on the investigation, sources said that as of there were no signs of any suspended Police official not cooperating with the probe and their passports have been seized as a precautionary measure. When contacted, a SIT member told Early Times that there is nothing to be revealed about investigation at this stage and facts will be made bare in due course of time.
