| Rs 1.6 Cr Kishtwar Bank robbery case solved minus looted money | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 22: Minus the recovery of looted cash, the Police have claimed to have worked out Kishtwar bank robbery case two and half months after burglars broke into the JK Bank branch and walked away with Rs 1.6 Crore. The Police today claimed to have achieved a breakthrough in the sensational Bank dacoity of J&K Bank Branch, Kishtwar where rupees 1.6 crore was looted on July 8, 2009. Three persons have been arrested so far and over Rs.12.50 lakhs have been recovered and more arrests are likely shortly. Special Investigation Team of Police comprising Dy. SP Mohan Lal Thakur and Dr. Mohammed Haseeb Mughal District SP Kishtwar struck a clue and arrested a person namely Shahid Hussain resident of Sirigwari, Kishtwar. An amount of Rs. 4, 89,600 of Rupees 50 & 100 denomination notes have been recovered from Shahid Hussain on his disclosure from a place where he had concealed. He has spent a small amount, out of the loot for purchase of house hold items. Shahid was apprehended while fleeing from Kishtwar to Kashmir via Synthan road by Kishtwar Police. During the interrogation name of another accused person figured namely Farooq Kriapak resident of Keswan at present Kishtwar. He had also played an important role in looting and concealing. He was kept under close surveillance and it transpired that he had deposited Rs two lakhs in the bank in his personal account. This amount has also been recovered. During further interrogation one of the accused namely Mehboob Ahmed Rather son of Ghulam Nabi Rather of JK Bank Lane, Kishtwar was arrested and an amount of Rs.559350 has been recovered from him. He was one of the main accused who had conspired and planned the whole operations. It may be mentioned that Ashok Kumar Gupta, IGP Jammu Zone had reviewed the investigation of the case along with Deepak Kumar, DIG Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Range during his visit to Kishtwar recently and passed on appropriate instructions. Special Investigating Team was asked to take this case as a challenge. It was only due to sustained efforts and guidelines issued by DIG Doda-Kishtwar Range Shri Deepak Kumar that first break through could be achieved which was successfully followed up by the SIT. So far an amount of Rs. 12.50 lakhs have been recovered out of the looted money. Further investigation into the case is in progress and more arrests are likely for recovery of remaining amount.
