| Sham calls for fine tuning SHTO | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 22 - The government has decided to fine tune the functioning of the State Health Transport Organisation (SHTO) to match the increased work load and to ensure efficient mobility in the Health Department. For this the functioning of SHTO will be exclusively monitored by the senior officer of the department which will enhance its accountability and bring greater transparency in its functioning. This was disclosed by the Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma while reviewing the functioning of the SHTO at a meeting held here today. Director Family Welfare & NRHM, Dr. Kulbushan Pandotra, Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr. Jasbir Singh, CMO, Jammu, Dr. Shahid Moghal and representative of State Motor Garages were present in the meeting. As a follow-up action to his visit to the SHTO workshop at Nagrota a couple of days back, the Minister discussed the functioning of the Organization with the concerned officers to ensure that men and machinery of the workshop is put to optimal use. He asked the concerned for taking immediate steps to conduct DPC, filling up of vacant posts, making the service station operational, undertaking renovation and repair work of the building, immediate disposal of off-road vehicles and repair of accidental vehicles. Mr. Sharma directed for getting all the departmental vehicles ensured and making it a mandatory exercise in future to avoid disputes arising due to accidents. He also asked for formulation of comprehensive proposal for the expansion of the SHTO to remove stagnation. The Minister also handed over an Antenatal Care Mobile Van equipped with the facilities of Gynaecologist/Lady Doctor, Lab, X-ray unit, ECG etc. to the CMO, Jammu for its utilization in the rural and far-flung areas where such facilities are not available. The CMO has been asked to depute the mobile medical teams to remote areas frequently to provide better health care facilities to the people.
