Dussehra arrangements finalized

UDHAMPUR, SEPTEMBER 22 - To finalize arrangements for celebration of Dussehra festival in Udhampur town, the District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Mr. Ajay Khajuria convened a meeting with District Officers and prominent citizens of the town, here on Tuesday.
Chief Medical Officer, Udhampur, Mr. R.K. Sharma, Assistant Commissioner, Revenue, Mr. Rajesh Sharma, S.P. City, Rajeshwar Singh, Dy. Controller, Civil Defence, Mr. Bodh Raj, Executive Officer, Municipal Council, Engineers of PDD and PHE, Tehsildar Territorial and Settlement, Udhampur, President, Dussehra Celebration Committee, Mr. Satpal Sharma and prominent citizens including Rama Nand Baria, Mr. Vikram Slathia and Councilor, Rakesh Gupta attended the meeting.
It was decided in the meeting that the main function would be held at Sports Stadium, Udhampur on September 28, 2009 where the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkarna and Meghnath would be installed and consigned to flames.
Regarding other arrangements like drinking water and power supply, security, sanitation, medicare, seating and barricading, the DDC directed the officers of PHE to make arrangements of barricading and drinking water supply, PDD for uninterrupted power supply and flood lights, Health department for first-aid, and municipality for sanitation. The District Police was directed to deploy adequate police personnel at vulnerable points of the town besides ensuring traffic regulations.
The DDC also asked the officers of Civil Defense and Fire Services to deploy their vehicles at the venue of the function to meet any eventuality while Civil Defense Organization would also provide the services of Civil Defense volunteers at the stadium. The DDC also directed the Executive Officer, Municipal Council to ensure that heaps of garbage and construction material dumped along city roads and lanes is removed to give a clean look to the town on festive occasion.
The meeting was informed that the procession carrying Jhankies of Lord Rama, Laxmana and Sita would start from Seetla Mata temple, Chowk Chabutra, Udhampur at around 3 p.m. and after passing through main bazaar, Gole market, Mukerjee Bazaar, Court road and Slathia Chowk, would culminate at Sports Stadium.
Arrangements of deployment of Police personnel, sanitation, imposition of traffic restrictions and uninterrupted power supply in the town on the eve of ‘Karva Chauth’ festival to be observed on October 7 also came up for discussion.
