Speaking in a review meeting called by the Roads and Buildings Minister G M Saroori here today, Asgar regretted that after commissioning of the Dul Hasti hydro electric project drinking water problem has worsened in the district. He warned the NHPC officers, who were also present at the meeting that his party would not remain a mute spectator if basic problems of the people of Kishtwar were not solved. Taking NHPC officials to task for not taking preventive steps before starting construction of the Dul Hasti project, he said it was all due to the wrong policies of the NHPC that residents of Kishtwar have been confronting numerous problems. Asgar reminded that before taking up the construction of Dul Hasti project, NHPC authorities had promised to create infrastructure in Kishtwar before completion of the project. In the presence of R&B Minister and NHPC officers, PDP leader made it clear in the meeting that NHPC authorities would not be allowed to start construction of other hydro electric projects which have been allotted to them by the government unless they fulfill their promises of creating infrastructure to solve basic problems of the people of Kishtwar. He said six projects have already been allotted to NHPC so it is necessary for the company to take some concrete steps to mitigate woes of the masses which have been emerged due to construction of hydro electric project in this belt. However, the NHPC officials promised to start a water lifting project at Bhanderkote before starting construction of the Pakaldul hydro electric project.
