| On Platinum Jubilee RBI holds celebrations in Ladakh | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 23- As part of Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of Reserve Bank of India, Jammu office organized Outreach Program at village Hunder in Nubra Valley across 18380 feet Khardungla Pass, the highest motorable road in the world. A similar program was also organized at village Basgo on Leh-Kargil road. The Bank has already organized such programs at village Chakra in Tehsil Bishnah in Jammu District and at village Puneja in Bhaderwah Tehsil in Doda District. The Outreach Programs were attended by a cross section of people including senior government officials, bankers, farmers, artisans, senior citizens, teachers and students. Speaking on the occasion, Arnab Roy, Regional Director for Jammu and Kashmir, Reserve Bank of India, familiarized the participants about the objectives of the ‘Outreach Program’ as conceived by Reserve Bank of India and also gave them a brief of the functioning of the Bank and how it impacts the lives of the common man. He detailed the steps RBI is taking to safeguard their interests and exhorted them to be a part of the financial system of the country so as to achieve the ultimate goal of all inclusive growth in the country as envisaged in the 11th Five Year plan. H. Kulshrestha, Banking Ombudsman for Northern Region and based in Delhi, also attended the program. He updated the gathering with the Banking Ombudsman Scheme and asked them take recourse to the scheme for speedy redressal of complaints pertaining to deficiency in banking services. U.C.Lohani and N.K.Sahu, Deputy General Managers, Reserve Bank of India also briefed the participants about various functions being performed by Reserve Bank of India. The main activities performed in these programs included setting up of an impressive information stall at the sand dunes near Hunder in the ongoing Ladakh Festival on the day when the festivities moved to this village for one day. Besides, interactive sessions were held with the students and residents of the village. The representatives of various banks were exhorted to make available all sorts of bank products to the villagers and join hands to ensure full financial inclusion in the area. An impressive program was organized at Government High School, Hunder, where films about the history and functions of Reserve Bank of India and features of a good currency note, were screened.
