| AMANDEEP MURDER CASE | | Some beans out in grilling? | | SIT questions suspended cops, FSL officials Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 23: As all eyes are now focused on the Police team of credible integrity led by Deputy Inspector General Farooq Khan to wash the blot off Police force by uncovering alleged misdeeds of their own colleagues, the Special Investigation Team probing evidence tampering in Amandeep murder case today grilled all six suspended cops individually. The SIT headed by SP Ramban Mubashir Latiefi had DIG Farooq Khan supervising the daylong proceedings with hardly a half-an-hour break. The SIT occupied the new SHO office building in Gandhi Nagar as their camp office while the accused cops being subjected to questioning were all made to wait in the retiring room of old office of Gandhi SHO, in the same premises. In related development, highly placed sources said, the SIT picked up four officials of the Forensic Science Laboratory and they were put to sustained questioning late this evening. Sources claimed that the FSL officials are reported to have admitted to being party to evidence fudging for a consideration. While SIT members refused to comment on any this at stage, sources told Early Times that the FSL officials pointed to a Rs 5 lakh deal for weapon tampering. However, this input was yet to be officially verified by any SIT member in any manner. Sources said that today’s entire questioning revolved around the weapon of offence. A member of the SIT and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Armed) Abdul Rauf Lone was seen taking a box into the SIT office which, sources said, carried the weapon that was handed over to the Forensic Science Laboratory. “SIT is not working on any assumptions or mere allegations and is therefore also looking into aspects of any ill deed made at different quarters or higher echelons with all or any of the suspended cops being part of the tampering scandal”, said a source privy to investigations and added, “possibilities of change of weapon at the Forensic Science Laboratory are also being looked into but probe will reach there only after comprehensive questioning of suspended cops and all other material evidences are factored in”. While other cops, source said, had reach the Gandhi Nagar Police Station premises by around 9AM when the SIT members had already taken their office, the former SSP Jammu Manohar Singh reached there by around 12 and was made to stay there till 5:30 PM. The suspended cops were called in the SIT room one after the other and several rounds of questionings continued till around 10 PM tonight. Sources said that every officer questioned once was called back twice or thrice again as the inputs obtained from questioning of their other suspended colleagues were often at variance. Barring a short break at 4:30 PM, the process of questioning continued till late tonight. Former SSP Manohar Singh and discharged for the day at around 5:30 PM when he left home in private car of former SHO Gandhi Nagar Sultan Mirza.
