| Refresher Course in Social Sciences commences at JU | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 24- A three week UGC Inter-disciplinary refresher course in “Major concerns in social sciences” for University and college teachers organized by Academic Staff College in collaboration with the department of Economics, commenced at Jammu University today. The course was formally inaugurated by Prof. BPS Sehgal Dean of Academic Affairs. Around 35 teachers from various universities and colleges including Maharashtra, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu Kashmir are participating in the refresher course. Speaking on the occasion Prof Sehgal highlighted the role of Academic Staff College in teacher training and called upon the participating teachers to discharge their duties efficiently as they are the builders of the nation. Prof I.V Malhan, Director, ASC, in his address underlined the need of Inter disciplinary approach in academics as it would lead to cross disciplinary communication of information and accelerated growth of knowledge. Prof R.L Bhat , Dean Social Sciences emphasized that the course will have broad based approach and would include recourse persons from allied disciplines. Prof. Jasbir Singh HOD Economics and the Course Coordinator thanked the ASC for collaborating with Economics Department for conducting this course and mentioned that eminent recourse persons both from within and outside the state would be invited to deliver lectures to the teachers. Ranjeet Kalra, Assistant Prof. Academic Staff College presented a formal vote of thanks on this occasion. Prominent among others who attended the inaugural ceremony included senior economist and Director Physical Education Prof Dhain Singh Bhau, Prof Nirmal Gupta, Prof. Dipankar Sen Gupta, Dr. Prakash Chand, Dr Arun Sharma, Dr. Sunita Sharma, Dr Manoj Bhat, Dr Virender Koundal and Dr Shalu Sharma.
