Chib declares 55th National School Games open

SRINAGAR,SEPTEMBER 25-Minister for Youth Services & Sports, Medical Education & Technical Education, Mr. R.S. Chib inaugurated 55th National School Games for under 16 years boys at Bakshi Stadium today.

On the occasion a scintillating function was held in which the under 16 boys drawn from 26 States of the country took part in a march past, followed by oath ceremony. The function was organized by State Youth Services & Sports department under the aegis of School Games Federation of India.

Students of various schools presented a colorful cultural programme on the occasion. MLC, Mohammad Altaf Wani was also present on the occasion.

Balloons of various colors and pigeons were set free by the Minister depicting the communal harmony, brotherhood and spirit of belongingness among the sportspersons.

Addressing the function the Minister said that it is a matter of pride for the State to host first National School Games. Mr. Chib said that Kashmir is heaven on earth and hospitality is our tradition. He wished the participants success and joy.

Referring to steps being taken by the State government for inculcating the sports enthusiasm among youth, Mr. Chib said that several initiatives are underway to reconstruct the damaged infrastructure and further improve the stadia for organizing mega events of sports.

Earlier Director Youth Services & Sports Mr. G.M. Dar in his welcome address said that six days competition from 25th to 30th September 09 will be held in most cordial atmosphere. He said that his department has made elaborate arrangements for the stay and comfort of participants with nostalgia in the years to come. He said that this gathering of sports fraternity shall provide an occasion for much needed national integration.

Later Mr. Chib presented trophies to the school children who took part in cultural programme.
