ETT courses being revamped

Srinagar September 25- Underlining the need for strict monitoring and evaluation, mandatory for the non-government institutions running the two year Elementary Teachers Training course (ETT) the Minister for School Education and Public Enterprises, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed said that every effort will be made to streamline and rationalize the course in these institutions. He reiterated that there will be no compromise on physical and academic infrastructure so that quality education is imparted to the students.
The Minister while inspecting the book store of Board of School Education (BOSE) here today exhorted the concerned to ensure the despatch of free of cost text books to far-flung areas like Gurez, Tangdhar take place well in time.
Asserting the role of educational institutions in imparting education and improving the standards, the Minister was informed that against the requisition 44.67 lakh books in Kashmir division 33.25 lakh are available while 6 lakh books for winter zone of Jammu division are available at present. He was also informed that books for Leh and Kargil already despatched have been delivered.
Chairman Board of School Education also informed that new text books of English and Mathematics for 9th standard and English literature for 11 and 12th classes have been introduced by the Board.
Earlier a detailed review meeting regarding the two year ETT course being run across the State was held at BOSE Campus here today.
Among others Secretary School Education Mr. G. A. Peer, Director School Education, Kashmir, Mrs. Shagufta Parveen, Chairman Board of School Education, Prof. D.B. Gupta, Secretary BOSE, Dr. Sheikh Bashir Ahmad, Additional Secretary Education Mr. Arif-ullah, promoters and representative of ETT attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister emphasized that 75 percent attendance will be compulsory for a candidate toappearing in the examination to curb absenteeism. He said that a calendar for timely admissions and conduct of examination has been framed to utilize the academic session in a better way. Regarding the distribution of candidates, the Minister said that counselling will be conducted so that number of applicants are equally distributed among the institution.
