| Proposals being formulated on eco-tourism in J&K | | | Early Times Report Srinagar September 25-Minister for Forest and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad has stressed upon the officers of Wildlife department to speed up the pace of works on the Hangul Conservation and Markhore Recovery projects and complete all works within a time bound manner. In this regard, he asked them to utilize the released funds judiciously and incur the amount in full and achieve 100 per cent target. These instructions were given by the Minister during a review meeting regarding Markhore Recovery and Hangul projects held here today under his chair. The meeting discussed threadbare various issues including project snow leopard, Prime Minister’s Re-construction Package proposed under 13th Finance Commission, conservation breeding centre for Hangul at Shikargarh Tral, State plan budget, funding support under the centrally sponsored schemes, eco-tourism plan for J&K, rehabilitation –plan for management of Ramnagar Wildlife Sanctuary and strategy and approach towards man-wild animal conflict resolution. The Minister instructed the concerned to develop the eco-tourism plan at Sonamarg on similar lines as is operative in Ladakh. He said that the proposed eco-tourism plan in J&K on the pattern of Himachal and Karnatka is under active consideration and the proposal would be formulated within 10 days. Mian Altaf told the concerned officers that he will review all instructions given in the meeting in the next month. He warned them if any officers will be found neglecting in achieving the targets, he would be punished. Among others, Commissioner/Secretary, Forest, Mr. Shantmanu, Chief Wildlife Warden, Mr. R.D. Tiwari, Director, Forest Protection Force, Mr. Lal Chand and senior officers of Wildlife Department attended the meeting.
