| Illegitimate favour at cost of personal Gains erodes public faith | | | By: Khushwant. S. Ranial This particular year 2009, has no added wings to the police image. It has been badly tarnished the undue favouritsm shown against pelty personal gains. Couple of incident in Srinagar and one in Jammu taken place, two weeks ago, has exposed the fabric of police as an institution. The manner in which size police officials of different rank and file have been placed under suspension for showing favouritism, dereliction of duty, leniency etc in most sensation day light cold blooded murder itself speaks volume of spread criminal tentacles within the institution. Truly, change of weapon to afford benefit to none criminal, intentionally or unintentionally breaks police hype and strong proclamation of police-public healthy existing relationship. In both cases, whether commission or omission of offence has been intentional or otherwise does not offer areas of escapism to those who were directly at the helm of affairs. They definitely stand accountable for such a mean and mischievous act. Laws are constitutionally approved set of rules, norms for the governanance of a healthy democratic state and society. Police is an institution for its execution. Police is constitutionally wedded with lawful authority to exercise the promulgation, implementation of laws in true letter and spirit so that unscrupulous , delinquent elements do not dare to take law into their hands and citizen breathe without fear and threat. But what shocks more to observe and see that upon whom sate has rested powers to deliver goods, when do quite contrary to the rich amount of exceptions if general of public the faith reposition in eroded and a helplessness common citizen benefit of power of any form fails to bear the Trauma of helplessness. Then people cries, laments for safety and security. They pose challenging questions of their survival. And, on failing to a seek any response of positive nature, paint every member of the organization with same brush and clours. They loose, sigh of distinguishing one from the other. And in the nutshell, those who by virtue of their pious, nature hold conviction to stand by their firm rationale principles, often get swayed away by public psyche, emotions, sentiments and feelings and too get derailed of the right track adding woes to the existing mess. In the recent incidents of Amandeep’s murder case, in which it has been charged that main weapon of offence has been changed to facilitate and benefit to one particular party at the cost of humanistic values, raises question that is the life of human being is cheap and worthless? Is the fear of law has squeezed? Should we presume that state of anarchy has established its evil roots in our country and state/ are the days of a gentle, human being numbered? Volley of questions crops in the mind to ascertain the facts. Why it is so that, a police official surrenders so meekly before his political mentors or anti national elements. Definitely, it smells something fishy. Such types of incidents are not new. A couple of days ago due to sheer amount of carelessness, in one particular case in Punjab, around for family members were made to stay behind bars for nearly 13n years in a particular murder case for no fault of theirs and innocents got respite only when the corrupt beneficiary was spotted and arrested and produced before the Hon’ble court. No doubt, the worthy court gave directives to one SP, two Dy SPs and one SHO other 07 independent witnesses to pay rupees one crore back to the true victims as a measure of compensation to overcome the grief. But here again, hearth bleeds in anguish and sorrow to determine whether such loss of time, age and happiness of the victims can be retrieved brought back or lost dignity restored to its acsne and charm. Sometimes, sensing the prevailing scenario, it comes to one minds that why in India, laws are misused and not enacted properly? Why dual parameteris adopted for rich and poor? Why not same yardstick is put into practice? It is because that our laws projects fairer amount of flexibility to place a see on poor havings no say of any nature and deviates from original execution at the cost of monitory, lucrative gains on the directives of political pressures or due to died self-consciousness. Remember the voice of the people, people is the voice of the God. If public is annoyed then it reflects that your God annoyed we have not overcome the wounds of yr 2008 SASB Land Row in which police role was subjected to eroticism due to her brutality and highhandedness. Police is the not only the guardian of law but equally protector of public. The effective role of police requires thorough transparency, impartiality, emotional balance and societal equilibrium shedding personal prejudices. The working of police seeks higher degree of sacrifices of greed, lust and personal emotions. It demands total devotion and dedication and one’s personal commitment to put restraint on one’s caprice. If such sort of things kept on repeating, then days are not far off the find the police survival hard and difficulties compounding to irreversible state, its before the image of police lowers further, truth should surface to deter others to mend themselves reminding that no body is above the law.
