| All cops from Jammu region sit across as Police chief talks of change in behaviour | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 24: Wary of the falling image of Police force following unpleasant incidents like Shopian and Shastri Nagar murders, the Director General of Police Kuldeep Khoda today had a brainstorming session with all key cops of Jammu region. The meeting though assumed immense significance in view of the recent developments, but sources said that deliberations focused on behavioral change among the cops and need for professional investigations. Besides IGP Jammu Ashok Kumar Gupta, DIG Doda Ramban Range, Deepak Kumar, DIG Jammu Kathua Range, Jammu Farooq Khan all Districts SPs of Jammu Zone attended this meeting. Khoda emphasized the need for making Police People-friendly since public is the basic user of Police service. He further added that it is high time to change the attitude and behaviour of the SHOs, duty officers and MHC’s as they deal with the public/complaint directly.. People generally approach the Police Stations in extreme distress or emergency. All the officers and men need to be turned to give patient hearing to the complainant and take appropriate action under law. DGP under scored the need for professional approach in investigation of crime specially the case of public importance. He stressed upon the preservation of scene of crime, spot visit by senior officers, response time, collection of scientific, documentary and circumstantial evidence. Thereafter proper “Pairvi” can lead to conviction which proves deterrent for potential law breakers. Record building and census of new settlers in sensitive area and new colonies is imperative for effecting intelligence and crime control, Shri Kuldeep Khoda said. DGP further directed all the SHO’s to update the records and registers. He stressed the need for close supervision and accountability at all levels Gazetted Officers especially district SSP’s were tasked to supervise the working of all SHO’s closely and pay special attention to complaints, delayed investigations by way of surprise visits and repeated casual and formal inspections. He made it clear that honest and hard working officers will be encouraged and rewarded whereas others will be made accountable. Khoda stressed upon the officers to use modern gadgets and techniques in controlling the crime. He told that Police Stations should make full use of modern facility like Common Integrated Police Applications (CIPA) for on-line exchange of information regarding crime, criminal and intelligence with other police stations. He complimented to all the officers for excellent work done in anti-militancy operations and maintenance of law and order. He appreciated the synergy and co-operation of Police with Security Forces and Army and intelligence agencies which has successfully thwarted infiltration bids so far. He issued detailed instructions to Police for maintaining alertness during festival season. .
