Jammu, Sept 25: On fourth day of marathon grilling of suspended officials and others, the Special Investigation Team headed by SP Mubashir Latiefi and supervised by DIG Farooq Khan today revealed a major breakthrough in evidence tampering in Amandeep murder case.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Farooq Khan, who is supervising the SIT proceedings, told a hurriedly called press conference that one of the Forensic Science Laboratory official has admitted his guilt of tampering weapon and he has been formally arrested under various sections of destructions of evidence and prevention of corruption acts. Khan’s press conference confirmed the Early Times report appearing in Friday edition that FSL officials admitted before SIT their role in weapon fudging.
Khan said that sustained questioning the ballistic expert of Forensic Science Laboratory Sarwar Bukhari broke down and admitted that he accepted money and the change the weapon of offence. The weapon of offence was replaced with an unserviceable country made pistol. After his prolonged questioning on Thursday Sarwar Bukhari was last night shifted to Bathindi Police post where he was subjected to interrogation before he admitted his guilt.
“After his interrogation a raid was conducted at his Chhani Himmat residence from where Rs 3.10 lakhs were recovered”, said Farooq Khan. The recovered money is a part of booty Bukhari accepted for fudging the weapon of offence. “Sarwar Bukhari has admitted to have replaced the weapon and recorded wrong statement”, said Khan.
On Bukhari’s revelations a mediator was arrested to who is believed to have facilitated the deal between perpetrator of crime and accused officials of Police and FSL. The mediator has been identified as Head Constable Tarsem Lal, currently posted at Warehouse (Nehru Market) Police Post in Jammu. Tarsem was taken into custody for interrogation.
DIG Farooq Khan, who was flanked by SIT chief Latiefi, told the press that buck does not stop at the FSL officials as involvement of Police officers is beyond any doubt. He said that there is a string of Police officers involved in the evidence tampering and it is only matter of time for the SIT to uncover the real culprits. He said that some Police officer may also be subjected to norco tests for nailing out the whole game plan.
Meanwhile, despite issuing warrant the father of the accused Raja and leading businessman Chowdhary Nagar Singh failed to appear before the SIT as he was required today. A Police team visited his Gandhi Nagar residence but the family members advised them to get a warrant from the court before coming there next.
When asked about this, the SIT supervisor Farooq Khan said that Nagar Singh can not escape the proceedings for long and he will be reached very soon.
