Teachers may regain authority under new grading system
9/26/2009 10:26:46 PM

Nirbhay Jammual
Jammu,September 26:-The CBSE has,in its latest circular to its affliated institutions, confirmed that the Government has done away with the old system of conducting Board examination for Class X students from 2011.It has also confirmed that from the next year grading system will be introduced. This way school teachers have been given sweeping powers in evaluating students. Those who support the new system believe that it will not cause stress and strain to students. Many students used to get tremors when the dates for the Board examination would draw near.
The Board holds no scare now onwards.Instead the teachers may be a commodity to be feared of.Now onwards the fate of the students will hang in the hands of school teachers.Well it is no longer a secret that teachers have their favourites in the classrooms. And these favourites are not necessarily those who are bright students.Students who act as yesmen or who perform personal chores of the teachers win their hearts. And when it comes to grading these students favourites to teachers will receive an edge over others. It is normal human psychology. Will teachers, who earn a fortune by teaching school students in private coaching centres, allow his wards to receive poor grade ? Certainly not.
Students have nothing to fear. They will learn the trick of the trade.Keep the teachers in good humour and your job is done. One has to learn the technique of winning the favour of teachers which is key to greater success. In case of Board examination the examiners do have no knowledge about students whose answer sheets he was evaluating.Under the new system teachers will know in advance whose answer sheets they were evaluating. Here the chances for teachers getting swayed by their likes and dislikes are bright.Since the system of teaching, performance of teachers and the IQ of students vary from school to school the grading system will not be uniform.
It has been usually seen that the Government comes down heavily on non-private school teachers if the pass percentage is poor. And in comparison to the private schools the pass percentage in Government schools is quite poor.On occasions the annual increment is withheld in case of those teachers who are held responsible for poor pass percentage.Under the new system Government school teachers have now nothing to fear.It is now in their hands to show remarkable results. One may see 40 per cent Class X students in Government schools having secured "A" grade, another 40 per cent "A+" grade and the remaining 20 per cent "B" grade. No wonder if these teachers would become entitled to additional annual increments.
Hitherto, students were seen vying with one another as it used to be the race for one to two per cent marks supremacy. It used to be a common phenomenon student A securing 98.5 per cent marks followed by student B with 97.5 marks and so on.We had different grades.Second Division,First Division, distinction and the merit holder. Now it will be simply A to C grades.A student having the capacity to secure over 96 per cent marks will have the same grade as a student who has the capacity to secure just 90 per cent marks.Yes,one would say that under the new system equality and classless and casteless society will get promoted.Under the new system teachers will regain their pristine dignity and authority. They no longer will be treated as lousy creatures. Now teachers will be respected by not only the students but by their parents also.Students may not now afford to take liberties with their teachers. In return teachers need not now carry rods inside the
class room to create scare among the
students. They no longer need to grow long moustaches to demonstrate their masculine power. They will become a much sought after commodity. They will dictate terms and will not accept any dictation from either the students or their parents because they hold spectre of grading system.
