Zardari's tactful omission of referring to UN resolution on Kashmir
9/26/2009 10:27:12 PM

Early Times Report
Jammu,September 26 :-Pakistan President,Asif Ali Zardari, has tried to outsmart Delhi by deliberatly avoiding making a mention to the UN resolution on Kashmir during his address to the UN General Assembly session in New York on Friday. He did so because he did not want to irritate India which has been seeking adequate steps for dismantling the terror infrastructure in Pakistan and strong action against the perperators of Mumbai attacks.
Instead of referring to the archaic issue of UN resolution on Kashmir, which has been kept under the carpet during the last 61 years because Pakistan had refused to implement some of the basic provisions contained in the resolution which included total withdrawal of troops from occupied Kashmir
Zardari dwelt on the need for improving friendly ties between Delhi and Islamabad which could help the two sides to settle bilateral issues through the process of dialogue. And Pakistani leaders would refer to the UN resolution on Kashmir whenever it suited them knowing fully well that India was not at all willing to implement it after Pakistan carried out armed invasions on the Indian territory more than twice.
Pakistan President was seen imploring India for the resumption of the composite dialogue which he said would be instrumental in resolving various issues including the Kashmir issue. He,at the same time, did not refer to his stand on the demand from Delhi which wanted stern action against those who had engineered terrorist attack in Mumbai over a year ago.India has conveyed to Pakistan that whatever steps it had taken against terrorists and against those involved in Mumbai mayhem were not adequate. When Delhi mounted pressure on Islamabad for initiating action against JuD Chief,Hafiz Mohd.Saeed, for masterminding the Mumbai attack Pakistan simply announced that it had placed Seed under house arrest as the establishment was planning to file fresh charges against him in the court. However, what angered Delhi is the latest report that Seed had been spotted moving freely in the country.
Zardari,no doubt, emphasised the need for resuming the composite dialogue,he did not miss to say that through the dialogue process various issues including that of Kashmir could be settled. He said that "absence of dialogue would lead to tension which must be avoided"and added that "we look forward to the resumption of composite dialogue."He,however, avoided telling the world body the reasons that delayed dialogue resumption process. He could not have done so because that could have exposed the dual policy of Pakistan which on one hand cries loud in favour of the resumption of composite dialogue and on the other hand continued to provide assistance to the export of terrorism to India, especially to Jammu and Kashmir. Not only this the Pakistani troops have violated ceasefire on the LOC and the IB more than six times during the current year.
Islamabad needs to do introspection. If it does it can easily understand the reasons that led to the dialogue channels getting choked. You cannot expect Delhi to talk to those who aid and abet terrorist strikes and infiltration into Jamm and Kashmir.(
