| BJP, JJSF celebrate victory | | CUAS gives 10 days time to government for issuing notification on CU | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 26- Welcoming the decision of the Union Minister for Human Resources, Kapil Sibal to set up two Central Universities in Jammu and Kashmir, the Central Government has taken the right steps in defusing regional tension and conflict that had started destabilizing peace in the state, stated Pavitra Singh, Convenor, CUAS. ‘Though it is only a statement by the government let us see the practical work on the ground’, he added. He said Samiti has given 10 days time to the state government for notification on the issue and only then we can be in a better position to comment. The CU was already decided for Jammu, now another CU has been given to valley, but we have also lost IIM in the way. Anyhow, we are keeping an eagles’ eye on them and will see how the things will take place. Meanwhile, he appreciated the step taken by the young and dynamic leader and the Chief Minister of the state in bringing the Central Universities for both in Jammu and Kashmir. He also demanded that Vice Chancellor should be immediately shifted to Jammu and the work of the University should also be started without any delay as otherwise we will be forced to raise our voices again. He appealed the people of Jammu to display the same unity which they had shown during the Darbar Move agitation, the Amarnath land row and the present one, to ensure justice and end discrimination with Jammu. He also announced that the CUAS will hold meeting on September 27 and October 2 with all its district level committee members and members of its core committee in Jammu. He congratulated the people of Jammu, student organizations and various political parties who had participated in the two and a half month long agitation over this issue. The Samiti’s struggle forced the Union government to fulfill the commitment of setting up a Central University in Jammu. As far the celebration is considered, he said that our real victory will be only when we get a written assurance from the Central Government. The state BJP today celebrated the opening of Central University in Jammu with party leaders dancing to the drum beats and distributing sweets at party headquarters. Party President Ashok Khajuria, addressing the party activists on this occasion, said that with the HRD ministry’s final node to establish Central University in Jammu , the people of Jammu have registered one more victory and made it clear that the Kashmiri leaders can not take them for granted any more. He said the real credit for getting Central University goes to the Central University Andolan Samiti (CUAS) which spearheaded the movement on the issue after bringing all the social, political and student organizations under its umbrella. Pointing to the role of coalition partners of NC and Congress on this issue, Khajuria regretted that instead of forcefully pleading for setting up of the University at the earliest as per the original decision, they diluted the issue by seeking establishment of such another University in the valley and thereby delaying the entire process.
