| On sidelines of Navratras, some health check in Katra | | BMO attached, two others suspended | | Early Times Report Katra, Sept 26: On the sidelines of ongoing Navratra festival, it was a test check for the local health institution here which had to face the axe of visiting Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma as he did not find things quite in order. Besides thousands of pilgrims thronging to the holy township, Katra is these days also a hub for VIP visitors. One after the other Ministers and bureaucrats are landing there in connection with the Navratra festival but today the Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma sought to take advantage of his presence in Katra when he made a surprise visit to the local hospital. Dissatisfied with the functioning of the institution, the Minister took to task BMO, Dr. KC Dogra and attached him in the Directorate of Health Services, Jammu till further orders. The buck did not stop at the BMO. Two other officials were placed under suspension on the spot and one of them was fined. The Minister also pulled up CMO, Reasi for neglecting the hospital and not ensuring the proper work culture in the institution. He asked him to undertake frequent touring of all the health institutions falling under his jurisdiction and ensure proper management in these. He also imposed a fine of Rs. 1000 on Tarsem Singh, Head Pharmacist and ordered suspension and attachment of Vivek Raman, Senior Pharmacist (Store Keeper) with Director Health Services, Jammu for not performing their duties as per norms. Maintaining that Katra being tourist hub, the Minister asked the doctors and para-medical staff to work with extra alertness, devotion and provide improved medicare facilities to the patients. He asked for maintaining extra vigil during the night hours to meet the emergencies. He issued instructions for proper sanitation in and around the hospital, proper upkeep of dispensary, stores etc. He went around all the wards, units and took stock of the facilities available there. He also interacted with the patients and enquired about the treatment and other facilities.
