| Over 4300 posts vacant in J&K:Chib | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 27- The Government is planning to rope in some super specialists from outside the state for running the clinics and for teaching programs in two medical colleges of the State. According to the Medical Education Minister R S Chib the state was facing shortage of doctors and para medical staff as over 4300 posts of doctors and paramedics were currently vacant in the health institutions. In reply to a question Chib said that in case the need arose "we may opt for some super specialists from outside the state for running the clinics and for teaching programme in the two medical colleges ". In case we find that the manpower, especially those of doctors within the state was meager we may take up those on the verge of retirement as medical practitioners on contract basis”, he added. In reply to another question he said "we may even appoint on contract those senior doctors who had retired during the last couple of years." He, however, made it clear that those retired or those on the verge of retirement who would be appointed on contract will not get administrative powers. They will be appointed solely for teaching and for clinical work. Explaining the rationale behind it, Chib said that if "we give administrative powers and ranks to retired doctors after their appointed on contract it would jeopardize the career and interest of in- service doctors. He said "we have been giving importance to cardiology, Nephrology, Neurology, Pediatrics, gynecology and Dental care. We plan to have both medical and surgery wings for all these departments." He said that some posts of paramedics had been referred to the SSSRB and those of doctors to the PSC. Government had directed these two agencies to expedite the selection, he said and added that if the Government felt the need it could appoint doctors and paramedical staff on contract and the exercise could be undertaken by the experts of the Medical Education. He said "we plan to develop different wings of medicines and surgery so that patients were not forced to visit Delhi or Chandigarh for treatmen
