Festivity, fervor marks Ramnavmi in Jammu

JAMMU, Sept 27 Like other parts of the country Ramnavmi—birthday of Lord Shri Rama, was celebrated here with religious fervour and gaiety. The City of Temples wore a festive look as the entire city was well decorated with saffron flags, buntings and banners on this auspicious occasion.
More than 50,000 devotees today visited Bahu Fort to have darshan of the deity of Kali Mata installed in the premises of the Fort.
Hymn-blaring kiosks decked up to lure customers, serpentine queues of devotees and an ambience of festivity marked the ending of the navratras here today.
Colourful as usual, the last navratra saw people thronging to the temple to pay obeisance to Bawe wali Mata as chants of “Sanche Darbar Ki Jai” rent the air. The young, the old, people of all age groups and from all walks of life began pouring in at the shrine since early morning even as stalls along the roadside readied for the rush.
Pilgrims, including women and children, waited for hours in queues for their turn outside Bawe Wali Mata temple (Kali Temple) to pay obeisance on the today.
As the people of Jammu have faith in the goddess Mahakali, thousands from different parts of the city and its peripheries, visited to offer prayers and have blessings during navaratras.
Authorities have made elaborate security arrangements. Keeping in view the heavy rush of devotees, additional deployment of police was made in the premises of the temple to control the people. Outside the premises some people have arranged langer for the devotees in which Parshad was served to all the pilgrims. Large number of devotees also visited Mahamaya temple on this occasion.
Paramilitary forces along with police have been deployed on the temple premises while the Bahu Fort, which witnesses a huge rush of devotees, is covered with tight blanket of security cover,'' a senior police official said.
Since, the Ramnavmi also marked the culmination of holy Navratras, the people were seen immersing ‘sacred sakh’ in the River Tawi and other holy rivers and water bodies. The people grow ‘sacred sakh’ in their houses and offer prayers to the same during the Navratras to seek the blessings of Almighty Goddess. On the culmination of Navratras, ‘sacred sakh’ is immersed in the holy rivers with rituals by the devotees after 'Kanya Pujan'.
The Tawi Ghats at Bikram Chowk, Har Ki Poodhi and Bahu Fort wore a festive look with hundreds of devotees including men, women and children waiting for their turn to immerse the idols and Sankh in the water.People came in long processions from different parts of the city with the idols of Goddess on their heads for immersion.




Over 2.90 lakh visit Vaishnodevi shrine during Navratras

Jammu: Over 2.90 lakh devotees have paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishnodevi here during navratras.
On average 33,000 to 34,000 pilgrims visited the shrine daily during the first eight days of navratras, while about 20,000 of them visited the shrine till 1400 hours today, officials said.
The navratra celebrations were in full swing in holy town of Katra- the base camp to the cave shrine- during the last 8-9 days.
These included All India Devotional Song competition, Shoba Yatra-cum-Cultural processions and religious discourses at various temples in the town, they said.
