Draw lots for additional Haj quota today

Srinagar. Sept 27: The distribution of additional Haj quota of 1500 seats would be made through draw of lots tomorrow at Haj House Bemina.
This decision was taken at a high level meeting of the State Haj Committee held this afternoon under the Chairmanship of Minister of State, (Independent charge) for Haj & Aquaf, Mr.Aijaz Ahmad Khan.
The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Naseem Lanker, Secretary Revenue, Aijaz Iqbal, Chairman State Haj Committee, Shahbaz, Regional Transport Officer, and Members of the State Haj Committee, Abdul Rashid Hanjoora and Saqib Qadri and Special Secretary Revenue, GM Rather were present in the meeting.
It was decided that in those districts of the State where the number of intending pilgrims having passports exceeds the number of Haj seats allotted, the draw lots shall be drawn among the intending pilgrims having passports.
In t hose districts of the State, where the number of intending Haj pilgrims having passports in less than the number of seats allotted, the intending pilgrims having passports shall be considered first and the remaining quota seats shall be selected among the remaining pilgrims who do not have passports.
Based on the population, the Srinagar district shall have 231 Haj seats from the additional quota, Ganderbal district 47, Budgam 135, Pulwama 100, Shopian 49, Anantnag 180, Kulgam 91, Baramulla 194, Bandipora 72, Kupwara 149, Leh 08, Jammu 17, Samba 04, Udhampur 12, Kathua 11, Doda 35, Kishtwar 20, Rajouri 68 and Poonch 77. With this, more than 7500 pilgrims from the State would be able to perform the Haj this year.
Speaking on the occasion, Aijaz urged for bringing more transparency in working of the Haj Committee. He urged for simplifying the procedures for depositing of money so that pilgrims of the far-flung areas do not face any hardships. He asked the concerned authorities to appoint liason officer at Jammu by tomorrow to lookafter the Haj related matters of the intending Haj pilgrims of the Jammu division.
